International Refugee Organisation

The International Refugee Organisation (IRO) was a United Nations agency established after World War II in 1946 to help displaced Europeans. Its main goals were to provide asylum, resettlement, and support for refugees and displaced persons, assisting them in rebuilding their lives. The IRO coordinated efforts for repatriation, integration, and voluntary migration, working with governments and other organizations. It operated until 1952, when its functions were absorbed into the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which continues to protect and support refugees worldwide today.
