International Polar Years

International Polar Years (IPYs) are collaborative international research initiatives focused on the Arctic and Antarctic regions. These multi-year events bring together scientists from various disciplines to study the polar climates, ecosystems, and the impacts of climate change. The first IPY took place from 1882-1883, and subsequent ones occurred in 1932-1933, 1957-1958, and 2007-2008. By fostering global cooperation, IPYs enhance our understanding of polar environments and their significance to the Earth’s climate, helping us address challenges related to climate change and environmental preservation.
