International Pacific Halibut Commission

The International Pacific Halibut Commission (IPHC) is a collaborative organization established in 1923 by the United States and Canada to manage and conserve Pacific halibut populations. Its main goal is to ensure the sustainable fishing of this valuable fish across the North Pacific Ocean and Bering Sea. The IPHC conducts scientific research, sets fishing quotas, and monitors fish stocks to prevent overfishing and protect the species’ health. By working together, the US and Canada aim to balance commercial fishing interests with long-term fisheries sustainability.
