International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme
The International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) was a scientific initiative launched in 1987 to study the Earth's interconnected systems, including the atmosphere, oceans, land, and ecosystems. Its goal was to understand how these systems interact and respond to human activities, such as climate change, deforestation, and pollution. By providing scientific knowledge, IGBP aimed to inform policies that promote sustainable management of the planet’s resources. Although the program concluded in 2015, its research has significantly advanced our understanding of global environmental changes and their impacts on life on Earth.
