International Dolphin Conservation Program

The International Dolphin Conservation Program (IDCP) is an effort by nations, primarily in the eastern Pacific, to protect dolphins and promote responsible fishing practices. It was established to reduce dolphin deaths caused by tuna fishing, especially in purse-seine nets that can inadvertently catch dolphins. The program promotes sustainable fishing methods, enforces international standards, and encourages cooperation among countries. By doing so, it helps ensure dolphin populations remain healthy while supporting the fishing industry and global seafood consumption. The IDCP reflects a commitment to balancing marine conservation with economic interests through collaboration and responsible practices.
