International DOI Foundation

The International DOI Foundation (IDF) is a nonprofit organization that manages the system of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs). DOIs are unique alphanumeric codes used to permanently identify digital content like research articles, reports, or data sets, ensuring they can always be found online even if their location changes. The IDF develops and promotes standards for registering and linking these identifiers, helping researchers, publishers, and libraries reliably access and cite digital materials. Essentially, the IDF creates a stable digital “name tag” system so digital content remains accessible and properly referenced over time.
