International Decolonization Committee
The International Decolonization Committee was established by the United Nations in 1961 to support countries seeking independence from colonial rule. Its main goal was to promote peaceful negotiations, monitor progress, and assist colonies in becoming sovereign nations. The committee helped facilitate dialogue between colonial powers and independence movements, ensuring a structured path toward self-governance. This process, known as decolonization, significantly reduced colonial empires and led to the emergence of new, independent states worldwide during the mid-20th century.
