International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism
The International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism (2011–2020) was a global effort led by the United Nations to support the dismantling of colonial rule worldwide. Its goal was to promote self-determination, respect for sovereignty, and address the needs of territories still under colonial control. The decade aimed to raise awareness, encourage dialogue, and help former colonies achieve independence or improve their governance. It recognized that colonialism persists in some forms and sought international cooperation to end this legacy, ensuring all peoples have the right to determine their political status and pursue development free from colonial domination.
