International Decade for Indigenous Peoples
The International Decade for Indigenous Peoples (1995–2004) was a global effort by the United Nations to promote and protect the rights, cultures, and well-being of Indigenous peoples worldwide. It aimed to raise awareness, address challenges they face—such as discrimination, loss of land, and cultural erosion—and encourage governments and organizations to take action. The decade provided a platform for Indigenous communities to share their voices, advocate for their rights, and work toward social, economic, and cultural self-determination. It helped foster greater recognition and respect for Indigenous peoples' identities and contributions.
