Internalized Objects

Internalized objects refer to mental representations of relationships and experiences with significant others, such as parents or caregivers, that we carry within us. These representations influence how we think, feel, and behave in future relationships. For instance, if you had a nurturing parent, you might internalize a positive view of support and love. Conversely, negative experiences might lead to feelings of insecurity or distrust. Essentially, internalized objects shape our emotional responses and perceptions, acting as a kind of internal framework for understanding ourselves and others throughout life.
