Intercontinental Ballistic Missile
An Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) is a long-range rocket designed to deliver nuclear or conventional explosives over distances greater than 5,500 kilometers (about 3,400 miles). It usually follows a high-arcing ballistic trajectory, allowing it to travel through space before re-entering the atmosphere toward its target. ICBMs are primarily used by countries for deterrence and defense, as their ability to strike anywhere in the world poses a significant threat in international relations. They are often deployed in silos or can be launched from mobile platforms, enhancing their survivability against potential attacks.
