Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC)
The Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC) is an international organization established in 1949 to manage and conserve tuna and other marine resources in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Comprising member countries mainly from the Americas and some from Asia, it sets scientific-based rules to ensure sustainable fishing practices, prevent overfishing, and protect marine ecosystems. The IATTC monitors fish stocks, regulates fishing quotas, and promotes cooperation among nations to maintain healthy tuna populations for long-term economic and ecological health.
