Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE)

The Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) was a professional organization founded in 1912 that focused on the advancement of radio, electronics, and communication technologies. In 1963, the IRE merged with the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) to form the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), which continues to be a leading professional society supporting advancements in electrical and electronic engineering today.
