injections (anti-VEGF)
Anti-VEGF injections are a treatment for eye conditions caused by abnormal blood vessel growth, such as age-related macular degeneration. VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) is a protein that signals blood vessels to grow. In some eye diseases, too much VEGF leads to harmful vessel growth and fluid leakage, impairing vision. Anti-VEGF medication is injected directly into the eye to block VEGF activity, reducing fluid leakage and abnormal vessel growth. This helps stabilize or improve vision, and the injections are typically administered in a healthcare setting by an eye specialist. Multiple treatments may be needed over time to maintain results.
