Initial Teacher Training (ITT)
Initial Teacher Training (ITT) is the process through which new teachers acquire the skills, knowledge, and practical experience needed to effectively educate students. It combines academic learning—such as pedagogy, subject expertise, and classroom management—with hands-on experience through placements in schools. ITT programs prepare future teachers to meet professional standards, understand diverse student needs, and develop effective teaching strategies. Upon successful completion, trainees often receive Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), allowing them to teach independently in schools. Essentially, ITT is the foundational training that ensures new teachers are ready to support student learning confidently and competently.
