Inherited Retinal Degeneration
Inherited Retinal Degeneration refers to a group of genetic conditions that progressively damage the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye responsible for vision. These conditions often cause a gradual loss of sight, starting with difficulty seeing in low light or at night, and can eventually lead to significant vision impairment or blindness. They are inherited, meaning they are passed down from parents to children through genes. The most common form is retinitis pigmentosa. While there is currently no cure, early diagnosis can help manage the condition and explore potential treatments to slow progression.
