Inhaler Techniques in Children
Inhaler techniques for children are essential for effective asthma or allergy management. When using a metered-dose inhaler (MDI), children should shake the inhaler, attach a spacer if available, and breathe out gently. Then, they press the inhaler while breathing in slowly and deeply for several seconds. After inhaling, they should hold their breath for about 10 seconds before exhaling. For dry powder inhalers (DPIs), children should exhale, then breathe in quickly and deeply to ensure the medication reaches the lungs. Proper technique helps maximize medication delivery, minimizing symptoms and improving overall respiratory health.
