infrasonic
Infrasonic sounds are vibrations with frequencies too low for humans to hear—below approximately 20 Hertz. Although inaudible, these low-frequency waves can travel long distances and carry energy from natural events like earthquakes, volcanoes, or storms. Certain animals, such as elephants and whales, can detect infrasonic sounds and use them for communication or navigation. Infrasound is also used in scientific research to monitor environmental changes and natural disasters. Because these sounds are below our hearing range, we experience them as vibrations or pressure changes rather than audible noise.
