Inflammatory responses

Inflammatory responses are the body's natural way of defending itself against injury, infection, or harmful stimuli. When tissue is damaged or threatened, the immune system releases chemicals that increase blood flow and attract immune cells to the area. This process causes redness, swelling, heat, and pain—signs of inflammation. These responses help isolate the problem, eliminate pathogens or damaged cells, and promote healing. While inflammation is essential for recovery, excessive or chronic inflammation can lead to health issues, so the body carefully regulates this process to maintain balance.
