Indigenous peoples of Tierra del Fuego
The Indigenous peoples of Tierra del Fuego, primarily the Yaghan, Kawésqar, and Selk'nam, are native groups who have inhabited the southernmost tip of South America for thousands of years. They were traditionally hunter-gatherers, adapted to the harsh, cold environment of the archipelago. Their cultures are rich in oral traditions, intricate tools, and distinctive practices, but many faced decline and displacement due to colonization, whaling, and settlement. Today, some descendants strive to preserve their cultural heritage and regain recognition, although their populations remain small and their ways of life significantly impacted.
