Indigenous peoples of Mexico

Indigenous peoples of Mexico are the original inhabitants of the region, with rich cultures, languages, and histories that predate Spanish colonization. Today, they comprise diverse groups such as the Nahua, Maya, Zapotec, Mixtec, and Otomi, among others. Many maintain traditional practices, crafts, and languages, although they often face economic and social challenges. Recognized by the Mexican constitution, indigenous communities contribute significantly to Mexico’s cultural diversity and history. Efforts continue to preserve their rights, land, and cultural heritage within the broader national context.
