Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUA)
Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUAs) are legally binding contracts between Indigenous communities and other parties, such as government or companies, about how land traditionally owned or managed by Indigenous peoples can be used. They aim to recognize Indigenous rights, provide benefits like employment or cultural protection, and facilitate land development or resource extraction while respecting Indigenous interests. ILUAs are part of a broader process to promote cooperation, autonomy, and sustainable management of land and resources in accordance with Indigenous values and laws.
