Indian Statutory Commission (Simon Commission)

The Indian Statutory Commission, commonly known as the Simon Commission, was established by the British government in 1927 to review India’s political and constitutional structure. It aimed to recommend changes to improve governance, but notably did not include any Indian members, which led to widespread protests and opposition from Indian nationalists who demanded greater self-rule. The commission's report influenced future reforms, including the Government of India Act 1935, but its lack of Indian representation made it highly controversial and a symbol of colonial insensitivity to Indian aspirations.
