Indian Social Structure

The Indian social structure is traditionally organized into a complex hierarchy known as the caste system, which classifies people into distinct groups based on birth and occupation. There are four main varnas: Brahmins (priests, scholars), Kshatriyas (warriors, rulers), Vaishyas (traders, farmers), and Shudras (laborers). Additionally, the Dalits (formerly called "Untouchables") are outside this system and have historically faced discrimination. Over time, laws and social reforms have aimed to promote equality, but caste identities still influence social interactions, marriage, and access to opportunities in many parts of India.
