Indian social reformers

Indian social reformers were individuals who sought to improve society by addressing issues like inequality, injustice, and traditional practices harmful to progress. They worked to abolish caste discrimination, eradicate sati (the burning of widows), promote education, and advance women’s rights. Notable figures include Raja Ram Mohan Roy, who challenged oppressive customs; Jyotiba Phule, who fought for marginalized communities; and Mahatma Gandhi, who promoted social unity and swaraj. Their efforts helped transform India into a more inclusive and equitable society, tackling deeply rooted social evils through activism, education, and reform movements.
