Indian Pond Heron

The Indian Pond Heron (Ardeola grayii) is a small to medium-sized bird found across India, Sri Lanka, and parts of Southeast Asia. It has a stocky body, a yellowish bill, and during breeding season, white plumage around its head and chest, giving it a regal appearance. Usually seen near freshwater bodies like ponds, lakes, and marshes, it feeds mainly on insects, small fish, and crustaceans, using a stalking technique to catch prey. Often found alone or in small groups, this adaptable heron plays an important role in maintaining the health of aquatic ecosystems.
