Indian National Language Policy
India’s National Language Policy recognizes Hindi in Devanagari script as the official language of the central government, with English as an associate official language for administrative convenience. It also supports the use of 22 scheduled languages at the state and regional levels, reflecting the country’s linguistic diversity. The policy encourages multilingualism, promoting the learning and use of multiple languages, while respecting regional languages’ cultural importance. Its goal is to facilitate communication across diverse communities, preserve linguistic heritage, and foster national unity through a balanced approach to language use at different levels of government and society.
