Indian Land Revenue Systems
The Indian Land Revenue System was a historical method used to collect taxes from landowners, primarily during British rule and earlier periods. It involved assessing land's productivity and value to determine tax amounts, with systems like the Zamindari, Ryotwari, and Mahalwari. Zamindari assigned taxes to zamindars (landlords), Ryotwari directly to individual farmers, and Mahalwari involved village communities. These systems aimed to generate revenue for the government and regulate land use, though their implementation often affected landholders and farmers differently, leading to social and economic changes over time.
