Indian Country

Indian Country refers to areas in the United States where Native American tribes and their members have recognized sovereignty or special legal status. This includes tribal reservations, Alaska Native villages, and other lands held in trust by the federal government. These lands are governed by tribal nations and Native communities, maintaining their cultural, political, and economic independence to varying degrees. Indian Country is an important part of U.S. jurisdiction, blending federal, state, and tribal laws, and recognizes the unique history and rights of Indigenous peoples in the United States.
