Independent Safeguarding Authority

The Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) was a UK organization responsible for ensuring that individuals working with children or vulnerable adults did not have a history that could pose a risk. It maintained a vetting and barring scheme, checking backgrounds and placing restrictions if necessary. This helped prevent unsuitable people from working in roles where they could harm vulnerable groups. In 2012, the ISA was integrated into the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), which now performs these background checks and safeguarding functions.
