Independent Reviewing Officers
Independent Reviewing Officers (IROs) are professionals responsible for overseeing the welfare and care of children in foster or residential placements. They ensure care plans are tailored to each child's needs and are followed correctly. IROs review arrangements regularly, check that children's voices are heard, and coordinate between social services, families, and other agencies. Their role is to promote the child's best interests, act as an impartial voice, and ensure that everyone involved is accountable for providing safe, stable, and supportive environments.
