Independent Mental Capacity Advocates (IMCAs)

Independent Mental Capacity Advocates (IMCAs) are trained professionals who support and represent adults who may lack the ability to make important decisions about their welfare or healthcare due to mental capacity issues. When no family or trusted person is available to help, IMCAs ensure the individual’s rights, preferences, and best interests are considered. They operate independently from healthcare or social services, providing impartial advice and support, and help ensure decisions made on the person's behalf are fair, respectful, and in line with their wishes.
