Independent Medical Examination (IME)
An Independent Medical Examination (IME) is a medical evaluation conducted by a doctor who is not previously involved in a patient’s care. The purpose of an IME is to provide an unbiased assessment of a person's medical condition, often in relation to legal cases, insurance claims, or disability determinations. During the examination, the physician reviews the individual's medical history, conducts a physical assessment, and may order additional tests. The findings are documented in a report, which can help guide decisions on treatment, compensation, or other relevant matters.
