Independence Rock
Independence Rock is a large, historic granite formation in Wyoming, USA, known for its significance during westward expansion in the 1800s. Pioneers traveling on the Oregon Trail, California Trail, and other routes would carve their names or the year of their journey into the rock as a way to mark their progress and celebrate reaching an important milestone—"The Rock," which was usually visited around July 4th, the traditional time to aim for reaching the Rockies. Today, it remains a popular historical site and symbol of American westward exploration and determination.
