Independence of Brazil

Brazil's independence was declared on September 7, 1822, when Dom Pedro, the Portuguese king's son, decided to break free from Portuguese rule. Tensions grew due to restrictions on Brazil's trade and governance under Portugal. Dom Pedro supported Brazilian national identity and movement toward self-rule, leading him to declare independence along the banks of the Ipiranga River. This marked the end of colonial control, establishing Brazil as a sovereign nation. The process involved political negotiations and minimal violence, allowing Brazil to transition peacefully into independence, setting the stage for its development as an independent empire and later republic.
