Incomplete Freund's Adjuvant
Incomplete Freund's Adjuvant (IFA) is a substance used in vaccines to enhance the body’s immune response. It is an oil-based compound that, when mixed with an antigen (a piece of a germ or virus), helps the immune system recognize and fight that germ more effectively. Unlike a similar substance called Complete Freund’s Adjuvant, IFA does not contain bacteria or immune-activating bacteria components, making it safer for humans. It works by creating a slow release of the antigen, stimulating a stronger and longer-lasting immune response. IFA is often used in research and some vaccine formulations to improve their effectiveness.
