in vitro maturation (IVM)
In vitro maturation (IVM) is a medical process used in fertility treatments where immature eggs are collected from a woman's ovaries and then matured in a laboratory setting. This allows for the eggs to develop into a stage suitable for fertilization without needing hormonal stimulation beforehand. Once matured in the lab, the eggs can be fertilized with sperm to create embryos, which may be transferred to the uterus to achieve pregnancy. IVM offers an alternative for women who may not tolerate traditional ovarian stimulation, reducing medication use and associated risks.
