In-Flight Refueling System (IFRS)
An In-Flight Refueling System (IFRS) allows an aircraft to receive fuel while airborne, extending its operational range without landing. It involves a tanker aircraft equipped with specialized fuel hoses and drogues that another aircraft connects to mid-flight. Once connected, fuel is transferred through hoses, enabling the receiving aircraft to stay in the air longer, carry out longer missions, or reach distant targets. IFRS enhances flexibility, operational endurance, and mission success for military and some specialized aircraft operations.
