Imprinting

Imprinting is a form of rapid learning that occurs at a specific early stage in an animal's development, allowing it to recognize and form strong bonds with certain individuals or objects—often a parent or caregiver. This process helps young animals identify their social group or survival needs quickly. Once imprinting occurs, the learned attachment or recognition is difficult to change. It plays a crucial role in ensuring young animals stay close to their caregivers for protection and learning essential skills during a critical period soon after birth.
