Implicit Theories
Implicit theories are the underlying beliefs people hold about themselves or others that influence how they interpret experiences and behave. For example, someone with an implicit theory that intelligence is fixed may see challenges as threats, while someone believing intelligence can grow may see them as opportunities to learn. These beliefs are often automatic and unconscious but shape our reactions, motivations, and judgments. Understanding implicit theories helps explain why people respond differently to similar situations and can be a focus for personal growth or coaching to develop more adaptive perspectives.
