Implantation

Implantation is the process where a fertilized egg, called a blastocyst, attaches itself to the lining of the uterus (womb). After fertilization, the egg travels down the fallopian tube and develops into a blastocyst. Around 6 to 10 days after conception, the blastocyst burrows into the uterine lining, establishing a connection with the mother's blood supply. This critical step allows nutrients and oxygen to flow to the developing embryo, supporting pregnancy continuation. Successful implantation is essential for pregnancy to begin and is often confirmed through a pregnancy test.
