Imperial Federation League

The Imperial Federation League was a British organization, active mainly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, that aimed to unite the British Empire—comprising Britain and its colonies—under a federal government. Its goal was to promote closer political, economic, and military ties, creating a unified system similar to a nation-state. Advocates believed this would strengthen the empire’s global influence and make governance more efficient. However, the movement faced opposition from those who prioritized colonial independence and local decision-making, and it ultimately did not materialize as a formal political union.
