Immunologic Disorders

Immunologic disorders occur when the immune system, which normally protects us from infections, mistakenly targets the body’s own tissues or substances. This can lead to conditions like allergies, where the immune system reacts to harmless things, or autoimmune diseases, where it attacks healthy organs and tissues, such as in rheumatoid arthritis or type 1 diabetes. Sometimes, the immune system is weakened, leading to increased infection risk. These disorders can vary in severity and may require medical treatment to manage symptoms and prevent damage. Overall, they reflect the immune system’s role in defending the body—sometimes inappropriately.
