Immune Response to Mold Allergy

When someone has a mold allergy, their immune system mistakenly identifies harmless mold spores as threats. In response, the body produces antibodies called Immunoglobulin E (IgE) specific to mold proteins. This triggers the release of chemicals like histamine, leading to allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and difficulty breathing. The immune system’s heightened response can cause inflammation in the airways, making it harder for the person to breathe. Essentially, in trying to protect itself, the immune system overreacts to mold, resulting in unpleasant allergic reactions.
