Immune Complex Disease
Immune complex disease occurs when the immune system creates antibody-antigen complexes (clusters formed when antibodies bind to substances like viruses or bacteria). Normally, these complexes are cleared without issue. However, in certain conditions, they accumulate and lodge in tissues, causing inflammation and tissue damage. This can lead to symptoms like joint pain, rashes, and kidney problems, depending on where the complexes settle. These diseases are often associated with autoimmune disorders or persistent infections and involve an immune response that, while meant to protect, inadvertently harms the body's own tissues.
