Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS)
Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS) was a U.S. government agency responsible for managing immigration matters, including processing visas, green cards, and naturalization applications, as well as enforcing immigration laws. Established in 1933, it played a key role in overseeing lawful entry and residency while ensuring national security. In 2003, INS was dissolved, and its functions were transferred to separate agencies within the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice, such as U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This reorganization aimed to improve efficiency and clarity in handling immigration processes.
