Imazighen (plural of Amazigh)

Imazighen, or Amazighs, are the indigenous Berber peoples of North Africa, primarily residing in countries like Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Mali, and Niger. They have a distinct language called Tamazight and a rich cultural heritage that predates Arab and European influences. The term "Amazigh" means "free people" or "noble men." Historically marginalized, many Amazigh communities have worked to preserve their language, traditions, and identity. Today, they continue to assert their cultural rights and recognition within their countries, contributing significantly to the region’s diversity and history.
