Imago Mundi
Imago Mundi is a project initiated by the Italian artist and writer Piero della Francesca in the 15th century, creating one of the earliest known world maps. It aimed to visually represent the known world based on contemporary geographic knowledge, blending art, science, and exploration. The map reflects the worldview of the time, emphasizing religious and cultural perspectives rather than precise geography. Today, the term "Imago Mundi" is also used broadly to describe conceptual or symbolic representations of the world—maps that convey ideas, beliefs, or cultural visions beyond strictly physical geography.
