Imaging techniques like PET scans (Positron Emission Tomography) create detailed pictures of the inside of the body. During a PET scan, a small amount of radioactive material is injected, which naturally accumulates in areas with high activity, such as active brain regions or spots with tumors. A special scanner detects the radiation emitted and constructs images showing how tissues and organs are functioning in real time. PET scans are particularly useful for detecting cancer, tracking disease progression, and assessing brain activity, providing valuable insights beyond what standard X-rays or MRIs can offer.
