Illuminati (historical organization)

The historical Illuminati was a Bavarian secret society founded in 1776 by Adam Weishaupt, aimed at promoting Enlightenment ideals like reason, secularism, and freedom from religious and political oppression. It sought to influence political and social reform through clandestine networks. Although it was suppressed and disbanded by the Bavarian government in 1785, the Illuminati later became the subject of various conspiracy theories suggesting it continued to operate covertly, controlling world events and institutions. Historically, it was a short-lived organization, but it remains significant as a symbol in discussions of secret societies and influence behind the scenes.
